Overview

The purpose of this research is to establish methods for contributing to historical studies through the construction of international standard text databases and to explore techniques for expressing historical thinking through computers. We promote DH practices in historical informatics through the creation of TEI data for historical materials. Specifically, we aim to convert human knowledge-based historical material information into computer-readable formats through markup, promote computer analysis, and enable mutual sharing of material understanding. We will start with relatively TEI-friendly materials such as Shosoin documents and medieval historical documents, and later expand to markup of modern materials created by other research groups. We will work in collaboration with other research groups to develop methods for extracting knowledge information from historical materials.
